Are RITES of Passage foundational for our Human RIGHTS

Wherever we are in the world, whatever our religion or community rituals, we celebrate the birth of a child, pause to honour the end of someone’s life and have some sort of ceremony or rite of passage when two adults join in union.  The most important and most celebrated of all was once the rite of passage into puberty, and it is the one we've lost.  This month we are excited to invite Kim McCabe as our guest on the November FemmeQ community call.  Kim and her team www.ritesforgirls.com have been doing this important work with young girls for 30 years. She will share what she has learned.

Three questions we will dive into together…

  • What has your personal experience been of the term ‘rites of passage’?

  • How do we heal that which has been damaged, broken or shamed regards our embracement of the feminine and being a woman?

  • What can we each do to support the future of girls, women and feminine intelligence accessible to all?

“In the absence of a rite of passage we see our teenagers engaged in all kinds of inappropriate behaviour.  What they're doing is self-initiating, they're trying to prove to us, others and themselves that they're growing up, that they're no longer children. It’s so important for women to work together and to heal this because we're pitted against each other and that mistrust of one another, which is why we work with girls in groups and not individually so that we can heal some of the messaging they receive or experience.  When girls are together when women work together, they are stronger and can stand beside one another and have each other's backs in a way that we don't necessarily experience in in society at the moment”  Kim McCabe
