Your host:  Karen Downes

Welcome to our next FemmeQ community call, where we delve into the essence of identity, choice, and transformation.

Understanding that which we inherited, in which we had no choice, starts to become our identity. From the moment we are born, we inherit more than just genes from our parents; we inherit a culture, traditions, language, and expectations. We enter a world that assigns us a name, a gender, a role, and a story. These elements shape us, often without our consent or conscious awareness, moulding the way we view ourselves and our place in the world. It is only natural that these inherited attributes become the foundation of who we think we are, influencing how we see our potential and what we believe is possible. But do they define us fully?

Without an identity, we cannot find our place in the world. Identity serves as our compass, helping us navigate our existence. It is how we relate to others, understand ourselves, and contribute to the larger human tapestry. Yet, what if this identity was never fully chosen by us? What if it was simply passed down, layered upon us, and we, in turn, began to live it out as an unquestioned truth?

Today, we invite you to start to explore two bold questions:

  • Can we start to see ourselves as different from the name we were given, can we embrace the qualities of both genders, the titles or credentials we have acquired? Can we begin to peel back these layers and understand that beneath these - names, gender labels, and societal roles—there lies something much deeper and more authentic?

Our inherited identities give us a way to navigate our journey in life, but they can be limiting boxes we keep ourselves in, disguising our true essence and authentic selves? What if we could choose something more expansive, and could create ourselves anew, by tapping into our inner knowing rather than outer definitions assigned to us from an outdated system?

During our time together, we will explore the potential for transformation that comes from challenging the inherited markers of identity and finding the courage to discover what lies beneath them.  By going beyond our given name, beyond the confines of the qualities of the gender assigned to us to embrace the feminine and masculine accessible to all, beyond the labels, titles and credentials we've amassed. By doing so, we may uncover a more profound sense of self—one that is not dictated by birth, parenting, religion, or culture but by the choices we make and the truth we choose to live by.

Together, let's ask:

  • Who are we really, when we move beyond the beliefs and labels that the world placed upon us?

  • How can we, as a community, support each other in the process of reclaiming and redefining our true essence, finding our rightful place in the world—one that is deeply aligned with who we truly are?

Join us as we reflect, share, and co-create a new understanding of identity. Let’s make room for an evolving self—one that has the power to transform not only our own lives but also the collective world we share.
